We have had a very busy week here at the Irish World Heritage Centre where we have welcomed over 120 primary school children through our doors for a series of cultural workshops. The schools project is funded by the Ireland Fund of Great Britain and has allowed us to provide professional artists and musicians to run traditional Irish music and Celtic art workshops to primary schools free of charge. The first group of children were from St Dustan’s R.C. Primary School who were playing host to St Philips Senior National School from Dublin. By the end of the day the children were experts on the tin whistle and also at Ceili dancing. They were treated to Tayto crisps and red lemonade from the IWHC shop.
We were then delighted to welcome St Chad's years 2 and 3 who had a short journey to participate in Music and Art workshops. The children learned all about the counties of Ireland and their famous landmarks and then went on to paint stained glass recreations of these, which they took back to display to the rest of their school.
These workshops are part of our busy cultural program that is ongoing here at the Irish World Heritage Centre, but there are still places available for schools in July and even into next September and October.
If you are a student or teacher at a Manchester primary school and you would like to take part in one of our workshops, contact Margot Power on 0161 202 1200.
